Harriet's Daughter Book Club & Study Group

The Harriet's Daughters Study Groups and Book Clubs are monthly virtual or in-person meetings led by the African National Women's Organization, where black women and femmes, those in solidarity come together to discuss books and other literature that center African liberation themes. We invite you to join if you have read the book or not. It's always a great discussion.

November 2024 Book of the Month:

Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Half of a Yellow Sun is a work of historical fiction set in the 1960s during the Nigerian Civil War, also known as the Biafran War. Adichie uses the symbol of the half-yellow sun to tribute to the agency of the Nigerian and Biafran people. The novel explores themes such as the politics of war, colonialism, and female empowerment and highlights the humanity of those who suffered during the war.
